I guess you could describe this as going from the sublime to the ridiculous!
But be that as it may, this is very much a part of my experiences. I do have an extensive background in the housekeeping/building
maintenance field.
During a good portion of the 1970s, and while also working
as a musician, I was employed by the Camden County Hospital Systems
at their Lakeland complex in Blackwood, NJ as a full-time regular BMW (Building Maintenance Worker). My duties were at first
confined to performing the daily functions as a janitor in the wards of the psychiatric unit (Ivy Hall) there in Lakeland.
But in my third year, I became part of a team of four, who worked throughout the complex (5 hospital buildings in all) doing
industrial / heavy cleaning, i.e. stripping / waxing entire wards, steam cleaning etc.
A PERSONAL NOTE:
I look back on my years there with fondness. It was an educationally
enriching period, a rewarding and a compelling experience, not only from a work ethic prospective and experience,
but also from a "people" prospective as well. I met, worked with and worked around so many different types of people,
and gained so much from their viewpoints and personalities, that I will never forget that time in my life. We really are a
diverse species, but at the same time we are one human family. Through the years since, I've utilized what I had learned
there about human nature, and applied it to every day life in my dealings with people.
